Nepalaya College was established in 1999 A.D., during the early years of Nepal's modern higher secondary education system, with the goal of bringing globally relevant education closer to local learners. Over the years the college has grown into a multi program institution, now operating across four buildings with close to eighty classrooms at its Kalanki, Kathmandu campus.

Nepalaya is affiliated with Tribhuvan University (TU), which means every degree awarded carries the same recognized standing as those from other TU-affiliated colleges across Nepal. The college's program lineup has expanded over time from its early business and computing offerings into a mix that spans management, computer science, and postgraduate study giving students in the Kalanki area a fairly wide set of academic paths without having to travel across the valley. All programs run under Tribhuvan University's curriculum, examination system, and academic regulations.
